OLMC Parents: At the Service of Life
“Parents are the principal and first educators of their children. In this sense the fundamental task of marriage and family is to be at the service of life.”
—Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1653
Last Wednesday, OLMC parents gathered at a local restaurant to spend a relaxed evening together before the busy school year begins. Old friendships were celebrated and new friendships began, building up community among the parents whose children make our educational ministry at OLMC School a reality. We are grateful for the many ways in which these parents support the daily work of our faculty and staff, and continue to be inspired by the ways in which they support and encourage each other. From welcoming new families, to participating in reading groups, to organizing practical support such a meal trains and childcare, the parents of our students have rejoiced and mourned, prayed and learned together, strengthening one another in their vocation as “first and primary educators of their children.”
We fully appreciate that the education of their children is at the heart of what it means to be parents. They are entrusted with this inspiring and intimidating mandate from God himself, and it is our privilege to work alongside them in the “well-ordered collaboration” described by Saint John Paul the Great. Our students are being prepared for lives of eternal purpose, and this preparation happens not only at school but also through the example of parents who themselves are committed to their own eternal purpose.
And so, at the beginning of another school year, we want to thank these parents for all that they do to aid the full-flourishing of their children—and themselves. We look forward to the many opportunities to discover together the richness that full-flourishing holds for all of us!
